Chris and I just spent two days at North Carolina's Outer Banks the week of October 12 in order to finalize lodging arrangements and to scout out several sites of interest for our 2016 class reunion. While we were there, the weather was sunny and comfortable; the beach, enticing and welcoming; the ocean; majestic and peaceful.
We reserved a group of rooms at the Hampton Inn and Suites which is a few miles south of Corolla, NC, for the dates of October 19-23, 2016. The Hampton is a lovely, oceanfront facility with direct access to the beach:
outerbanks.hamptoninn.com. Our room rate will be $89 + tax per night.
Chris and I also checked out the boardwalk of Manteo, NC; a fishery in Wanchese, NC; an art studio near the Hatteras Lighthouse; the historic village of Corolla, NC; and other sites. In the course of food-tasting at a few restaurants, we came across the historic Lifesaving Station No. 5 for lunch. Of course, the Wright Brothers Memorial, Jockey Ridge State Park (huge sand dunes), and the wild horses in their natural habitat north of Corolla all beckon.
This weekend we placed the Save-the-Dates postcards in the mail. After the approaching holidays we will mail more detailed information regarding our reunion to everyone in our class for whom we have contact information.
